Trend: The statement jacket
Whether you opt for a short biker jacket or a paisley print boyfriend blazer, the statement jacket is a huge trend this winter. Get the look, keep warm and look super stylish this season.
Make a hot winter fashion statement with one signature piece - the statement jacket!
The statement jacket can take many forms
Think cute prints, pretty florals, fun polka dots or even textures like tweeds and checks. You could also opt for super bright shades that makes your whole look pop (see Add pops of colour to winter) or pretty shimmery jackets (see Winter trend: shimmer and sparkle). Whatever you do make sure you have at least one statement jacket in your cupboard.
How to choose a statement jacket
Be practical! The last thing you want is a statement jacket that does nothing for your figure or complexion!. If you have a larger bust be careful with what you choose, keep your jacket unbuttoned to create a more streamlined balanced look.
If you have a smaller chest go crazy with fun bold prints. Remember the most flattering jacket is a blazer style jacket that ends just above your hip. If you want to fake some curves go for a pretty and super trendy tuxedo style jacket.
Working the trend
Because your jacket is supposed to be the key feature of the look, you need to keep the rest of your ensemble slightly muted. Luckily winter's fashion palette with its plethora of greys, browns and neutrals make this super easy.
One super hot but super easy (and fashionable!) look is to throw your statement jacket over a basic white tee, nude heels and a pair of jeans or black leggings, you can jazz things up with a pretty scarf. You could also try wearing your jacket over a simple winter dress with some interesting stockings and a colourful pair of pumps that add contrast for a bolder look.
