Spring beauty trends
Spring is fast approaching, so get ready to put your winter products and styles aside to make way for spring's exciting new beauty trends!
This season bring spring's fashion colours straight into your hair and makeup.
Fitting for spring, this season's colours come straight from the outdoors and ocean to delight us with tangerine orange, sunshine yellow, mint green and coral pink as well as neutral pastels including soft pink, blue, yellow, green and purple. Pastels were all over the international runways during the New York Spring/Summer Fashion Week and not just in the clothing, but in hair and makeup too.
Thakoon brought us dyed hair of bright blues, greens, lilacs and pinks to their models entire head, while Mulberry dipped the edges of their models hair into pastel greens, yellow and pinks. This trend is spreading fast amongst celebrities too; Katy Perry and Kelly Osborne are not afraid of the coloured hair dye bottles and have opted for a full hair colour.
If you're not as adventurous, follow reality television stars Lauren Conrad and Snooki's look by highlighting the lower half of your locks. You can get this look at home: all you need is a simple box of chalk pastels from any art store and you can add the colour straight onto your hair. For darker hair you will need to add some water for the colour to be more visible. Then leave your hair down in waves, or unstyled twists, braids and loose ponytails for a breezy feel you would find at an afternoon picnic or walk on the beach.
Bring these same colours to nails: Essie have a great range of pastel polishes and for the brighter colours, Inglot and O.P.I have a wide selection. Your toes and fingernails do not have to match, but for spring be sure to keep your fingernails to the more neutral colours and leave the brighter colours for your toes.

With all the many colours in hair and on nails this upcoming season you will need to keep your makeup fairly neutral. Use a rose-petal or apricot-coloured blush to warm your cheeks for spring. Keep lips soft and subtle with a nude tone lipstick and a neutral champagne, gold or beige gloss. This minimalist look allows the lashes to become spring's make-up focal point. L'Oreal Paris Renewal Lash Serum (R185) is a lash enhancer that nourishes your lashes and stimulates growth making them thicker and longer.
Keep lashes defined with a mascara that coats every lash and creates an eye-opening look, such as Maybelline Define-A-Lash lengthening Mascara (R134.95) or Elizabeth Arden's Ceramide Lash Extending treatment Mascara (R180). Also look out for mineral makeup which is made of minerals and organic material, without chemicals, and have added health benefits for your skin. The Body Shop has an Extra Virgin Mineral Compact Foundation, a Liquid Foundation and a Loose Powder Foundation ranging from R185 to R205. Woolworths also has a mineral foundation for R150.
