Dear ke nna
Lately I’ve been asking myself if my weight is something I should be concerned about. Despite the fact that I go to the gym more regularly than my thin best friend, I still have more body fat than she does. Does this mean that I am more unfit?
Fit and fat are actually unrelated.
Fitness is built on the three pillars of strength, stamina and flexibility in whatever combination and at whatever level you want to and can achieve. Nobody can tell you how fit you need to be, or how you need to be fit. We each get to come to fitness on our own terms.
Being overweight puts stress on every part of your body and creates many risks to your health. If excess fat accumulates to the extent that it may have adverse effects on your health, it may lead to a reduced quality of life.
Bear in mind at all times though that being fit relates to a state of health and wellbeing and not specific fitness routines.
