Post Pregnancy Bodies

A new myth doing the rounds is that women can shed pregnancy weight a day after giving birth.

POST pregnancy issues

Six months after giving birth to a baby girl, stunning actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made headlines for 'being too fat'. The Times of India reported that a video, which had been viewed more than 50,000 times, showed before and after pictures of Aishwarya accompanied by the sound of an elephant trumpeting. This should come as no surprise as celebrities are lauded for miraculously shedding pregnancy weight on the day they give birth.

J Simpson Post preggies

On the other side of the planet, Jessica Simpson was maliciously attacked for her weight gain during her pregnancy. An unfortunate approach because they failed to mention how blissfully happy she looked in all the photos. This is something often overlooked when reporting on celebrities and their weight.

Given the complications of pregnancy and delivery, should any woman really be burdened with issues like weight gain?

It can no longer be blamed on western media that these are prevalent thoughts on post pregnancy bodies in our society. In fact, the online portal Mirror UK published a sincere article on what average women’s bodies look like after giving birth. If we are going to make women love their bodies as they are, maybe a good start is helping them see their bodies in a positive light.

When gaining weight after giving birth is a shameful thing, we have to sit down and evaluate the way things are. Some celebrities choose to look like they never carried a child in their lives by undergoing life threatening surgery immediately after giving birth. There is nothing wrong with that, just as there is no shame in a post pregnancy body.
