Cleaning out your closet

Thinkstock

With every winter season seeming colder than the one before we shop for more winter clothes leaving us with minimum wardrobe space for our spring and summer items. Unless you have a walk in closet, here is a step by step guide to reorganising your closet in preparation for a curvy spring.

Pack away your winter coats

Not only does one coat take up the space of at least 3 summer dresses but putting away a coat into a storage area like your holiday suitcase will make you feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. The visual effect created by an empty space in your wardrobe will inspire ideas for the direction you want to take when shopping for your spring items.

Pack away the winter boots

Packing away your winter boots is a reminder of that long awaited pedicure you’ve been postponing. Be bold with the colours you paint on to your toe nails, this will help you be even braver with the summer sandals you might purchase from here on.

Pack away the thermal vests and winter stockings

Thermal underwear never comes in pretty colours anyway. Non-flattering colours equals a not so confident or sexy you! Bring out the lingerie instead!

Categorise your remaining clothes

It helps to have an organised closet especially when dressing in a hurry. If all of your summer dresses are hung in one section, you will know what colours you can play around. If all of your tops are folded in one space, finding bottoms in their respective sections to go with it will be a breeze.

Invest in room/closet fragrances

There is no need to buy an expensive bottle of perfume to spray into your closet. Go to your local bath and body store and ask for closet fragrances. Alternatively, try natural fragrances like cinnamon sticks or lavender flowers. Fabric conditioner refill sachets placed in your closet are a cheaper option. Stimulating your olfactory sense can have a positive effect on the start of your day.

SPRING TIP: Invest in a mannequin to help you dress up. If you style a mannequin with your clothes, you will be able to be more creative. Besides, it eliminates the schlep of trying on all the clothes and the frustration that comes with it.
